To Be Determined

For a moment, take a breath.

Let your mind wander as you enter the world below.

Imagine yourself in Mexico. This is a secret, mostly unknown part of Mexico. You are in the wild, colorful, life-filled, wet, green, and primal lands of southern Mexico!

Imagine yourself surrounded by a thick and affectionate air, buzzing with life.

The hair on your arms stands tall, as your skin is wrapped in the excitement of potential, of adventure!

Imagine yourself breathing in this buzz. You walk through, and breathe in the scents and energy of the markets bustling with bright neon textiles, and women dressed in indigenous garb. And within the same day, you also hear the gentle, crisp, crunch of leaves under your feet, in the fertile silence of the cacao forest.

Imagine awe, connection, embodiment, feeling so alive, laughter, deep joy, releasing sorrow and despair, wonder, a world of newness and beauty, sensual delights, the bitter, sweet, and smooth taste of chocolate, and being held safely and truly nurtured through it all.

Imagine yourself surrounded by a loving, inspiring, nurturing group of women, whom you truly explore and open yourself with.

Imagine taking everything within you, deeper than ever before, and reaching a place inside yourself that feels solid, secure, and simply KNOWS.

Imagine feeling the calm, ferocity, passion, and trust in yourself and the world, that will allow you to step forward a new woman, with confidence, and the power to make the changes that you had never imagined you could make.

Imagine the power to live life the way you have always imagined, and the inspiration, connection, and support to finally DO IT!

Welcome to

Chiapas Chocolate Retreats!

What are Chiapas Chocolate Retreats?

Chiapas Chocolate Retreats are a once in a lifetime opportunity to transform your life.

These retreats are 8 days long. A specially selected group of at most 10 women, will be immersed into exploring their senses and passion in San Cristobal de Las Casas, and will also travel to Huixtla to discover the cacao forest, harvest cacao, process the cacao bean, take part in its distribution, and will get to make chocolate products.

In the midst of being on this journey, participants get to indulge in all their sensuality daily, using chocolate, as well as the wildness, beauty and richness of Chiapas. During this adventure, participants are brought through a group and individual process that is contemplative and transformative in nature.

You will get the space to learn to focus deeply on your own internal experience.

You will learn to travel beyond the places inside where you have normally stopped, due to your own fear.

You will learn to harness your senses, deeper knowing, passion, wildness, and your creativity. You will learn to harness your adventurous and bold nature, and have a safe space to embody this part of yourself.

You will return home a more aware, embodied, awake, passionate, and empowered woman, with a mission and the clarity to see where you can live your life in a different way, to help you feel more alive and happy!

Give to Yourself, While Also Giving Back!

Ava has a long-term mission to help this cacao community gain a more solid, grassroots economic infrastructure. This will effectively help preserve the culture of chocolate in this special region, for generations to come.

There is a social and economic justice element to these retreats, that you will be supporting simply through participating! A non-profit organization has already been created to help this community join the global chocolate market, while being in control of their product, from forest, bean, to bar. When you purchase your retreat, a percentage will be donated towards this non-profit.

Did you know? . . .

At this point, most of the cacao from this region, which is the highest quality in the global cacao trade, is bought and shipped out by large corporations. Farmers and distributors thus get a relatively low amount of money for their product, for the immense amount of resources and labor they put in, while corporate cacao buyers and traders, as well as artisanal chocolate producers using their cacao product, make a very large profit. Due to this trade pattern, this cacao community has gotten progressively less profit on their product, and their communities end up seeing very little economic success.

Because cacao doesn't make the profit that it once did, due to this corporate, global trade, and is increasingly less economically viable as a career, younger generations are less and less interested in propagating cacao, and thus, the culture of chocolate in this region is disappearing.

Ava will donate a percentage of every retreat, towards this non-profit, where 100% of the money in this organization, will go towards helping accomplish these 6 community-generated goals:

1. Buy more pest-tolerant cacao varieties to plant on their farms.

2. Develop more effective ways to naturally deal with cacao pests.

3. Build larger cacao fermentation facilities.

4. Acquire the land, building supplies, permits, and skill sets necessary to build a community-run, cooperative cacao processing and chocolate making facility.

5. Acquire marketing and advertising skills,  to promote their superior cacao and chocolate products.

6. Acquire international recognition as a source and provider of fair-trade, organic, high quality cacao and chocolate.

What better way to make a difference in the lives of a large community of people, help preserve the culture of chocolate, and also have the time of your life, than participating in Chiapas Chocolate Retreats!

Go to the cliff's edge within your soul.

Look down.

Let yourself feel the breeze that seduces you off the ledge.

JUMP!

There, in that fall to the bottom,

Is where you have been yearning to be,

All along.

Ava gazes in a strong, empowered way, at the camera. She is inviting you to sign up for this chocolate-filled, empowering, adventurous women's retreat in southern Mexico

Meet Your Retreat Facilitator:
Dr. Ava Pommerenk

Hello!

I am so excited to bring you with me, on this immersive, empowering, adventurous, transformative, chocolate-filled retreat!

I myself have been in your shoes. I have felt stuck. I have felt a yearning for an experience to shake me out of my routine, and to help me re-align with what is most important for me. I felt a yearning to live more wildly, to feel more free, and to be more bold.

Through my own explorations, and metaphorical and literal cliff-jumping experiences, I came to a point in my life where I decided to completely change course, in order to be more in alignment with what makes me deeply happy and empowered. I left my profession as a psychologist, left America, and moved to San Cristobal de Las Casas, in Chiapas, Mexico. I have since been living here and embracing the deeper levels of alignment and empowerment that have come to me, through being willing to let go of fear, and listen more deeply to what I desire for my life.

I formed these retreats out of my way of living, here in Chiapas.

This retreat is a place to safely explore the wisdom of your senses and your deeper knowing, while also luxuriating, and immersing yourself in the world of chocolate.

I have created this retreat for women who are slightly more swashbuckling and fiery than your average spiritual-retreat seeker. This is a retreat where I would like us to embrace our fire, embrace our passions, and embrace our deepest yearnings and desires, and use them to fuel the transformation that we have been too scared to step into until now!

I will be with you along the journey, and help you empower yourself to step into your return home, a different woman, in alignment with what her deepest desires and passions are for her own life, and with a commitment to reformulate life to help you live through these deeper parts of yourself.

Please contact me if you have any questions and I will respond to you as soon as I am able.

With all the fire and warmth inside of my heart,

Ava

Learn More About San Cristobal de Las Casas, Huixtla, and Chiapas

SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS

San Cristobal de Las Casas is a bustling sub-tropical, high-elevation, multicultural city.  San Cristobal stands at 7,217 ft in elevation, or, 2,200 meters. This means the temperature here can get quite cold, however, it never snows, due to how low in latitude it lies. This city has an old Spanish European look, as it has been preserved to maintain the same appearance as when it was colonized in the 16th century, by the Spanish conquistadors.

San Cris lies in a valley, between several picturesque mountains. During different periods of the day, all you have to do is look in a certain direction, and you will see incredible views, completely unique to this region, given the way in which this city is constructed.

In this city, there four main languages spoken here: Spanish, English, Tzetzal, and Tsotsil. Tzetzal and Tsotsil are two of the most common languages spoken by indigenous peoples here. However, there are literally hundreds of other indigenous languages spoken throughout the State of Chiapas!

This city boasts some of the most incredible farmer's markets, as well as artisanal markets. It also is a place for trading gems of jade and amber, that are mined locally. It also has amazing cuisine, as well as a great music scene, lively nightlife, and a very active arts scene.

This is one of the most sensual, passionate, and romantic cities outside of Spain, and you will see why!

HUIXTLA

Huixtla is a small coastal city in the south-west of Chiapas state. It is a distribution point for the surrounding agricultural regions. In this general area, which in agricultural terms is referred to as the Soconusco Region, has some of the richest soil, as well as some of the most incredible conditions for growing chocolate, coffee, bananas, sugar cane, and mangoes. This region produces, hands down, some of the best cacao in the world, as well as contains some of the most rare varieties of cacao.

CHIAPAS STATE

Chiapas State is known as one of the most diverse, wild, and most resource-rich states in Mexico. Chiapas borders the country of Guatemala. Chiapas, in fact, used to be a part of Guatemala, until relatively recently in Mexico's history. Thus, much of the textiles and foods in Chiapas, especially that of southern Chiapas, are similar to that of Guatemala. Chiapas houses the most intact indigenous groups (12 recognized ethnicities), as well as indigenous languages. Chiapas has many incredible archaeological sites and ruins. One of these sites is called Palenque, and it is still in the process of being excavated. This state boasts many intact relics, structures, and ruins from the Mayans and pre-Mayans.

This is a map of Mexico showing the women who will be signing up for Chiapas Chocolate Retreats where Chiapas is.
